Tourist attractions
The Castle, known as the "ship castle" for its peculiar shape, was owned by the Guidi Counts in the 12th century and later came under Florentine rule. Today, the castle distinguishes the historic village and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding hills. But what attracts most visitors passionate about the genius of Vinci is the path that follows in Leonardo's footsteps.
The Birthplace, located in Anchiano, is the first stop on the Leonardo itinerary. Here, through a museum path, it is possible to discover the most intimate aspects of Leonardo's life and art, his deep connection with the territory. Immersed in the green Tuscan countryside, the Birthplace also represents an excellent starting point for a walk on the suggestive paths of Montalbano.
In the historic center of Vinci, the Leonardian Museum testifies to Leonardo's work as a technologist and engineer. The museum's collection is one of Leonardo's most extensive and original machines and instruments. The models, accompanied by digital animations, show the breadth of his interests, ranging from studies on flight and movement in water to war machine projects, from optical experiments to textile machines.
Still in the village, the itinerary continues in the Church of Santa Croce, which houses the chapel of the baptismal font where Leonardo was baptized. Today, the church is embellished with installations by Cecco Bonanotte dedicated to the History of Salvation.
In the suggestive surrounding places, works of contemporary art rework the legacy and suggestion of the Genius.
Among these, you can admire "L'Uomo di Vinci," a sculpture by Mario Ceroli in Piazza del Castello, and the bronze Horse created by Nina Akamu.
Piazza dei Guidi, designed by Mimmo Paladino as a scenic entrance to the museum path, completes the experience.
In addition to the places dedicated to Leonardo, Vinci boasts the Leonardian Library, which houses the entire corpus of manuscript codes in facsimile versions.
Thanks to the eLeo portal, most of these codes are now accessible online, making the library a recognized center for studies and research at an international level.
