PAUL PREUSS
In 1913, on the top of the Porte Neigre, in the heart of the Catinaccio, at the foot of the famous Vajolet Towers, the PAUL PREUSS Refuge rises, and it soon became a popular destination for numerous excursions and aided routes of varying difficulty.
The construction of the refuge is thanks to the famous mountain guide Tita Piaz. However, he dedicates it to Paul Preuss, a renowned climber of the early 1900s and forerunner of free climbing.
It looks like a panoramic terrace on the Porte Neigre, in the southeast face of the Catinaccio, the Vajolet Towers, and Punta Emma.
It can be accessed from a comfortable dirt road, which is also ideal for children.
It offers a typical and refined cuisine managed directly by the owner.
How to get there:
"From Pera di Fassa, along the SS 48 of the Dolomites: after the town, on the right, there are a series of large car parks, there you will find the Pera / Ciampedie chairlift.
It is possible to use the Catinaccio cable car from Vigo di Fassa, which leads to the Ciampedie refuge. Then go along the flat path (0.45 hours) along the way n.540 with the indication for the Gardeccia refuge.
From the Gardeccia refuge, in about an hour, climbing along the comfortable and wide path 546, you reach the Preuss refuge, which can be seen in the distance on the top of the rock. Cit: www.rifugidelcatinaccio.it
