One of the most beautiful villages in Italy with the ancient sport of the Ball with the Bracelet... #tuttitaly
Mystical land rich in history; you can feel it along the streets, in the flavors and traditions you can see in every corner of this beautiful Italy. We are in Treia, an enchanting medieval village in the province of Macerata.
The origins of the name are still a mystery, but this place's
actual historical and cultural identity is very evident. Traces of the past are everywhere you move; the Settempedana, a commercial and military route, winds through the Treiese territory, an authentic Roman and Christian "navel of the world," but also an itinerary of the spirit (connects Rome to Loreto), a favorite of St. Francis which had among the first followers the Blessed Pietro da Treia.
Treia is included in the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy; the suggestive walls and breathtaking panorama make this place an evocative natural setting.
After discovering the village, you must eat the calcioni, a puff pastry disc with a dough made up of eggs, pecorino cheese, sugar, and oil in the center—ideal as a snack but also as a dessert.
Here in Treia, I had the honor of wearing the famous bracelet used in the Ball game with the Bracelet, an ancient sport practiced by the nobles and followed with great enthusiasm by the people. In the nineteenth century, this sport was practiced between two teams of three players each, who had to hit with their forearm, wrapped in a large wooden sleeve, a leather ball, making it bounce on a side wall concerning the pitch and letting it go. Fall on the opponent's field.
At the town gates, in the Fontevannazza district, you can relive the peasant life conditions of the Macerata countryside between the 1800s and the early 1900s by visiting the house museum on the ground. You must know that the earth houses (the "landed" ones) are ancient houses typical of the Marche, built with earth usually mixed with straw, prevalent in the medium-hilly province of Macerata.
The history is so deeply rooted in this area that in the hamlet of Passo di Treia, it is possible to admire the mighty monumental oak. With its strong trunk and extensive foliage, it is undoubtedly one of the most
beautiful oaks in Italy by trunk circumference, the largest in the region: 30 meters high, 6.5 meters in trunk circumference, and an estimated age of about 450 years. The tree is so well known that it has been portrayed several times in television films, and 2000 it was declared a national monument.
So much to see in the Macerata area, do not miss discovering these splendid places rich in history and traditions.
