Today we visit Termoli, an enchanting village in the province of Campobasso.
Here you can breathe sea air. The town is loved above all for the quality of the seawater and the safety of the beaches. In 2003 it obtained the recognition of the "Blue Flag," which makes it a tourist destination.
The ancient village dominates the port, which offers beautiful views over the sandy beaches.
Furthermore, from here, you can reach the Tremiti Islands, one of the most beautiful archipelagos in the Mediterranean, which mainly attracts scuba diving enthusiasts.
The meeting between Borgo Vecchio and Città Nuova characterizes Termoli.
The center of ancient Termoli houses the Cathedral dedicated to Santa Maria della Purificazione, built in Romanesque style between the 12th and 13th centuries. It holds the relics of Saints Basso and Timoteo.
Another symbol of the city is the Castle, surrounded by ancient walls. Built-in the Norman period around the 11th century, it was then renovated and adapted to the new war requirements by Frederick II in 1247. From here, it is named "Castello Svevo." This, too, boasts its legend with a ghost as its protagonist: c'è 'u mazz'marill', a mischievous spirit and joker who wandered at night throughout the ancient village, spitting mischief in the fishermen's houses and then retiring to rest in the castle.
Every 15 August, the manifestation of the fire of the castle takes place, recalling the assault suffered by the Turks: the Borgo Vecchio and the building light up on this occasion thanks to the fireworks.
