Known as Forcella Staulanza (1,783 m asl), an excellent stop on the Alta via n.1 of the Dolomites and a starting point for excursions to the Pelmo massif... #UNESCO #tuttitaly
The Staulanza pass, known as Forcella Staulanza, is an alpine pass in the Zoldo Dolomites which connects the Val di Zoldo with the Val Fiorentina through the SP 251, located between the slopes of Mount Crot and Mount Pelmo.
At the pass, we find the Passo Staulanza Refuge (1,783 m), a stopping point for hikers on the Alta Via delle Dolomiti N.1:
equipped with 13 rooms with bathrooms, a large dormitory for groups and an excellent restaurant specializing in Ladin cuisine.
The refuge is also the starting point for excursions to the Pelmo, a mountain in the Zoldo Dolomites that reaches 3,168 m a.s.l.
The mountain is divided into two massifs: the Pelmo and the Pelmetto, separated by a gully that culminates in a narrow saddle (2,726 m).
At the foot of the Pelmetto, at an altitude of 2,050 m, a boulder with dinosaur footprints was found. A cast of the boulder with traces can be seen in the Civic Museum of Selva di Cadore.
