Senerchia is a beautiful village between the provinces of Avellino and Salerno, and today it has 772 inhabitants. The town was partly abandoned due to the earthquake that, on 23 November 1980, destroyed the church and other houses located downstream.
Consequently, the new city was rebuilt near the old village, which houses the current inhabitants.
The birth of the village dates back to the eighth century, by the populations who emigrated from the coast due to the continuous raids of the Saracens.
Not far from Senerchia, there is the WWF Oasis Valle della Caccia. This includes some rare plant species, including the black pine. We also find wolves, golden eagles, peregrine falcons, black woodpeckers, and more.
The area is also rich in caves, such as that of the Devil, of the Madonna di Senerchia, of San Gennaro, of Rovivo, and Petena. Also worth mentioning is the Teglie Area.
In addition to the Sele that laps the territory, we have Vallone Rovivo, Vallone Forma, Piceglia, Fiumicello, Rovivo, Pozzo San Nicola, Acquabianca, and Vallone Badoleia. Following the earthquake, some watercourses disappeared; the best known was the La Pazzata stream which, in 2010, after a spring full of rains, returned to gush for a few weeks and then disappeared again.
The town, located 600 meters above sea level, is one of the most evocative of the upper Sele Valley. The ecosystem is still pristine and is perfect for those who love exploration, tracking, and hiking.
