Sea Caves (FG) - Gargano - Vieste - Puglia

We are on the Gargano coast and, more precisely, on the stretch of beach that goes from Vieste to Mattinata. Many say that it is one of the most evocative landscapes of Puglia.

The protagonists are the Sea Caves, white and high cliffs overlooking the sea, with pines and gorse that stretch out on the blue waters.

The magnificent coves between the rocks and the white pebble beaches, which can only be reached by sea, make this splendid glimpse of Italy an earthly paradise. All by Mother Nature, who, centuries after centuries, millennia after millennia with methodical slowness, has used the waves of the sea that have eroded the limestone coast of the Gargano to create realistic scenarios which no hand would have been able to develop, opening gashes, crevices, and tunnels.

The sun makes this place magical, creating beautiful light effects that reflect on the water, projecting the blue of the sea even on the white rock walls.

The discovery of these sea caves is very recent. They were discovered in 1954 by two fishermen, the Trimigno brothers.

I recommend visiting and discovering this wonderful place with one of the many boat tours organized along the Gargano coasts. The guides will then show you some shapes, like the footprint in the rock, the rock turtle in the sea, the heart in the rock, or the keeper of the caves.

Recently, the countenance of Padre Pio was discovered in one of the natural cavities.

You cannot miss this dream landscape, an uncontaminated place where the direct experience with nature will be unforgettable, as it was for me. Only after having been there will you understand the famous exclamation: "You don't know the Gargano if you don't see it from the sea."
