Scanno (AQ) - Parish Church - One of the most beautiful villages in Italy - Abruzzo

The "Village of photography"; Its magic as a living nativity scene is never forgotten... #tuttitaly

In the Sagittario valley, surrounded by greenery, stands Scanno, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

To make this village unique, in addition to the natural setting, its historic center, rich in medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture, also lends itself. Styles belonging to different eras overlap each other creating an indescribable scenario.

The first evidence of the existence of this locality dates back to 1067. Still, Scanno lived its maximum splendor between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, when the female costume was born, contemporary to the affirmation of the wool industry and the art of dyeing. Today, the Wool Museum preserves the town's memories and makes us discover the various everyday objects donated by the local population.

However, even today, one can come across older women who proudly wear the ancient traditional dress, where the fabric skirt, enriched with a woolen cloth inside, can weigh up to 15 kg.

The village has numerous arches inside the alleys, stone portals, two Baroque fountains, noble palaces, and churches. Cover landscapes can be captured from every angle, so Scanno is known as the "City of Photographers."

The borough is also famous in New York. In the Moma Museum, a photograph of the child from Scanno was taken by the great Italian photographer Mario Giacomelli.

Also worth visiting are the craft shops, especially the goldsmiths, where you will still find the "presentose" jewels the mothers-in-law gave future daughters-in-law. The name derives from the fact that the future wives then bragged to everyone about the gift received.

Scanno deserves a visit both for its beauty and for its history.
