Tourist attractions

Despite being a relatively small city, several interesting attractions exist. Here are some of the places to see in Sassuolo:

1. Palazzo Ducale: This imposing palace is the symbol of Sassuolo, home to the Museum of Ceramics, where it is possible to admire a vast collection of local ceramics.

3. Church of San Giorgio: This Baroque church is one of the main places of worship in Sassuolo. Inside, you can admire frescoes and works of art of great value.

4. Church of San Francesco in Rocca: The church was built between 1650 and 1653 to a design by Bartolomeo Avanzini. It stood next to the Palazzo Ducale and served as the chapel of the Este family. It was connected to the main building by a secret passage, which the dukes of Modena used to go through to attend mass. The frescoes of the church were made by the French Jean Boulanger, the same artist who took care of the decorations of the Palazzo Ducale.

The altarpiece, entitled "Ecstasy of San Francesco" and dated 1654, is the work of the Flemish painter Michele Desubleo. In the chapel on the right, there is a relic initially from Turkey, the Most Holy Crucifix, commonly called the "Sacred Trunk." This crucifix is displayed once a year during the Holy Thursday procession.

5. Music Museum: Located inside the Doge's Palace, this museum exhibits a vast collection of ancient and modern musical instruments. It is an exciting place for music lovers.

6. Montegibbio Historical Park: Located near Sassuolo, this park offers the possibility of hiking in nature and visiting an ancient medieval castle.
