Santa Caterina di Pittinuri beach - Cuglieri (OR) - Sardinia

I remember finding this beach, almost by chance, along the road from S'Archittu to Cuglieri.

Guarded by the sixteenth-century tower of Pittinuri, from which the name derives and stands on the northernmost peninsula.

The beach, made of golden, reddish, and black pebbles, is sheltered by an inlet of limestone rocks.

The sea is clear and shallow, suitable for children, while the days of the mistral make the cove a paradise for wind and kite surfers.

Definitely, wilder is the view a little further north, at su Riu 'e sa Ide, where tongues of limestone gently recline towards the emerald green sea. From this point begins one of the

wildest and most unexplored coasts of Sardinia: the coast of Montiferru, where it is possible to see a scenography almost impossible to find elsewhere. This river falls sheer into the sea.

A unique spectacle on the island, very rare in Italy and unusual in the rest of the world: the waters of the Cabu Nieddu waterfall plunge directly into the Sardinian Sea, making a jump of forty meters.

"the dip" is called by the locals "s’Istrampu de Capu Nieddu." An experience that, unfortunately, we did not live because the river almost dried up in the summer, and the little rains of that period did not allow us to observe this crazy scenario.
