Rimini, the most important seaside resort on the Romagna coast, with kilometers of beaches of very thin sand, is also defined as the capital of entertainment.
In addition to being the ideal destination for those who love the sun and the sea, Rimini also attracts the traveler in search of art, monuments, and historical evidence - which can be discovered by walking along the city's main street, Corso d'Augusto.
To visit
The Tempio Malatestiano, or the Cathedral of Rimini, was commissioned by Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, lord of Rimini, from 1432 to 1462.
We can admire the Crucifix by Giotto from 1312 and a fresco by Piero Della Francesca in which Sigismondo is depicted kneeling at the foot of San Sigismondo.
From the Temple, in one minute, you arrive at Piazza dei Tre Martiri, the ancient Roman forum of the city where the emperor Julius Caesar would have addressed his legions after crossing the Rubicon and would have pronounced the famous "The die is cast."
The most photographed monument in the square is the Clock Tower, built in 1547 with a dial with a calendar, zodiacal movements, and moon phases.
From the square, you can see the Arch of Augustus, the oldest preserved in northern Italy, built-in 27 BC. as a monumental gate.
Going along the Corso d'Augusto, we arrive in Piazza Cavour, the most important Rimini.
The Fontana Della Pigna, until 1912, was the only source of drinking water in the center of Rimini.
The square leads to the Pescheria Vecchia, one of the most characteristic places in Rimini: fish was sold under the arches and on the marble counters.
In 1989, during road works in Piazza Ferrari, the walls of a Roman building, mosaics, coins, and medical instruments began to appear. What would later be called the Domus del Chirurgo, a complex of Roman origins, had just been discovered.
Thanks to the walkways that walk over the mosaics and foundations of the complex, it is possible to retrace the architecture and history of the house.
To admire the original scale construction of the rooms of the Domus, we must go to the Museum of the City of Rimini, which also collects finds and works recovered from churches and city buildings.
Gastronomy
Rimini delights at the table thanks to the symbolic dish, the IGP piadina, stuffed with other traditional products, cheese, and DOP oil.
