Pieve Santo Stefano (AR) - Tuscany

In the heart of the Tuscan Valtiberina, at more than 430 m above sea level, stands Pieve Santo Stefano, an Italian town of about 640 inhabitants.

The village's origins are very ancient; some traces date back to the Neolithic period of Roman domination.

In the Middle Ages, the town was dominated by the Florentines and the Tarlati and reached its maximum splendor in the Renaissance thanks to Lorenzo the Magnificent. The works of this era can be admired inside the Palazzo Comunale, where you will meet: Della Robbia, Piero della Francesca, and the Ghirlandaio.

In 1855, a flood flooded the city, destroying the archives and the most precious works of art from the Renaissance.

In 1944, the retreating German troops devastated Pieve Santo Stefano, destroying the entire town.

After these tragic events, the inhabitants dedicated themselves to rebuilding the country and caring for their history.
