One of the most beautiful and largest villas in the Veneto region: Villa Contarini... #tuttitaly
Piazzola sul Brenta is located north of Padua and is 59 km from Venice Marco Polo Airport, the closest.
Piazzola sul Brenta runs along the banks of the Brenta River. Until 1268, the territory belonged to Vicenza, where a castle with defensive functions once stood.
Villa Contarini
In 1540, the fortress was transformed into a rustic villa. In the second half of the 17th century, Marco Contarini enlarged the building, making it similar to a palace and an extraordinary theatrical venue for representation and recreation.
The project to widen the villa remained unfinished, probably due to a lack of funds.
The private chapel of the villa is the work of Tommaso Temanza.
In 1852, the Camerini family bought the villa, which by then was in decay, and starting from the second half of the 19th century, they started the restoration works. Thus the estate returned to its former glory, and the vast English garden was also created at the end of the 19th century.
After a long period of abandonment after the Second
World War, the villa was restored and, in 1970, opened to the public. Today, the building hosts cultural activities and events.
