Ortano Beach (LI) - Elba Island - Tuscany

Ortano Beach is one of the most famous beaches in Elba. It is about 150 m long, and in width, it reaches up to 50 m. It is, therefore, not a particularly large beach but is distinguished by its composition of small pebbles mixed with black sand. It requires the right shoes to be able to walk in. But if you don't have one, don't worry! You will find a small supermarket near the beach with everything you need.

Here we find a transparent sea, and you can also go snorkeling.

On the beach, some nets allow bathers to dive without worrying about the presence of jellyfish.

The excursion to the islet of Ortano is highly recommended, reachable by swimming or on foot along the cliff and the small beaches that develop on the right side of the bay.

If you are on holiday with small children, it is better not to venture on the cliffs because the path, in some places, is slippery. We tried with Kevin, but after a few steps, we returned because it became dangerous for the child.

We tried to reach the islet by walking through the woods, a path you found just before going to the beach, and there we encountered breathtaking views.

But if you want to enjoy this adventure, I recommend you dedicate a whole day to it, because the path is quite long. Despite this, it deserves.

At one time, Ortano was one of the main iron extraction sites. You will still find the architectural evidence of the mining period: the dock for loading minerals on the ships and the road where the trolleys were transported.
