Orosei is surrounded by an enchanting sea, 14 km of white beaches, framed by pine forests, Mediterranean scrub, and granite rocks. Its quality has been recognized through the awarding of the five sails by Legambiente... #tuttitaly
Famous for the gulf of the same name, which houses caves, gorges, and beaches among the most beautiful in Sardinia, the village of Orosei preserves an ancient heart of rare beauty.
Period buildings and churches characterize the historic center of Orosei: there are 17 still consecrated. Between these:
- The Sanctuary of Sant'Antonio Abate, built in the Pisan period, is a rural construction with a medieval climate.
Surrounded by characteristic houses that housed pilgrims, the so-called cumbessias (still used today during village festivals).
The devotion to Sant'Antonio led to the tower's construction to protect the church and the hospital.
- The Sanctuary of the Madonna del Rimedio is among the most beautiful in Sardinia. It was transformed into a hospital during the wars with the Saracens and epidemics.
- The Church of San Giacomo in Baroque style.
- The Church of the Souls houses a wooden pulpit from the 18th century.
Caserma Vezza, a seventeenth-century building, houses the Don Nanni Guiso miniature theater museum: a collection created over 65 years. Here you can observe theatrical miniatures from the eighteenth century to today, ancient books, works of art, and stage costumes. Also noteworthy: are the text of magic in Sardinian (from the 16th century), the cloak that belonged to Nureyev, Dior clothes, and a wedding chest of great value.
The oldest district of Orosei is that of Palatzos Betzos, where the castle once stood. Here lived the nobles and wealthy families, who had their majestic palaces built.
Orosei is the right place to stay to enjoy some of the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia: Cala Ginepro, Cala Luna, Cala Cartoe, Cala Mariolu, Cala Fuili, and Cala Goloritzè.
