Diocesan Museum of Pesaro and Sculptures by Ugo Riva - Pesaro (PU) - Italian Capital of Culture 2024 - Marche

Opened to the public in 2006, the Diocesan Museum of Pesaro is a place that bears witness to the important role played by the Pesaro Church over the centuries. The building that houses it is located in the charming underground spaces of Palazzo Lazzarini, in front of the Cathedral. The museum collections consist of archaeological artifacts and historical-artistic treasures that narrate the history and art of the area.

The archaeological section of the museum is divided into three rooms, each showcasing unique treasures to admire. In the sarcophagus room, visitors can admire two significantly important sarcophagi, dating back to different eras and originating from significant places like the cemetery church of San Decenzio. In the mosaic room, fragments of mosaics taken from the upper floor of the Cathedral are displayed; while in the archaeological artifacts room, objects from various eras found during the Cathedral excavations are visible.

Among the most significant works that visitors can admire are the ivory pyx from the Byzantine era, the room dedicated to the Confraternity of the Most Holy Sacrament, and the room showcasing artworks from the 18th century Pesaro.

Ugo Riva's Sculptures

On April 6, 2024, in Pesaro, the exhibition "9 sculptures for a Great Soul" by artist Ugo Riva was inaugurated. This exhibition, held in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Pesaro, presents works born from an internal dialogue between the artist and Rosy Medri, creating a fascinating exhibition that engages in dialogue between the ancient architectural vestiges of the Diocesan Museum with contemporary art.
