Nicotera is a charming village located on the Costa degli Dei, in Calabria. This fascinating place is rich in history and myths related to Magna Graecia.

Tourist attractions

The village of Nicotera extends over several levels, and its ancient streets are a true pleasure to walk through. Along the oldest streets, you can admire magnificent noble palaces with their granite portals and iron elements made by local artisans.

The two main streets of Nicotera are Corso Cavour and Corso Umberto I. Along these streets, you can find the Fountain of the Monks, dating back to the 18th century, and Piazza Roma, with its staircase and colorful umbrellas.

The main square, formerly known as the square of the four portals, is surrounded by 19th-century mansions and is the meeting point with Corso Umberto I. Here you can find the Town Hall, housed in the ancient Dominican Convent, which dates back to the 16th century.

The Castle, built in 1764 on the ruins of a Swabian-Angevin fortress, offers a spectacular view that embraces the sea, the Piana di Gioia Tauro, the Aspromonte, Sicily with Mount Etna, and the Aeolian Islands.

It is worth visiting the Giudecca, an ancient Jewish quarter wanted by Frederick II, and the popular districts of San Giuseppe, San Nicola, and Santa Chiara, with their churches overlooking the sea.
