Melito di Porto Salvo (RC) - Calabria

Melito di Porto Salvo, a seaside and agricultural town in the beautiful southern region of Calabria, is rich in history and natural beauty. Since ancient Roman times, this charming town has been inhabited. Still, during the 15th century, the Byzantines introduced the cultivation of bergamot, a citrus fruit that made Melito famous worldwide.

Today, Melito di Porto Salvo is a renowned seaside resort, awarded with two sails in Legambiente's Blue Guide.

Its charming promenade overlooks the Ionian Sea and offers breathtaking views of Sicily, with Mount Etna in the background. On clear evenings, the panorama becomes magical and enchanting.

Among the attractions to visit is the Garibaldi Museum, built at the exact spot where Giuseppe Garibaldi and his Thousand landed in 1860 and 1862. This museum is divided into three parts: the outdoor area, where the new Garibaldi stele is located; an underground area with the tombs of some of Garibaldi's allies; and the actual museum, where you can admire weapons, clothing, and numerous documents related to the landing of the Thousand.

On the Lungomare di Mille, you will also find the Sanctuary dedicated to the Madonna of Porto Salvo, built-in 1680 at the request of Marquis Domenico Alberti di Pentedattilo. This Sanctuary is a place of great devotion for the Melito di Porto Salvo community, which annually carries the statue of the Madonna in a procession to Pentedattilo, thus strengthening the bond between the city and its history.

Finally, Melito di Porto Salvo is part of the Southern Jonic Coast South Cape Mountain Community, a territory characterized by unspoiled nature and breathtaking landscapes. So, if you love nature and stunning views, you cannot miss this excellent destination.
