A small town in the province of Salerno, Maiori is one of the villages on the Amalfi Coast, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.
Tourist attractions
Maiori is renowned for its lemon path and its transparent sea.
The lemon trail connects the town to another town on the coast: Minori. Along the way, characterized by more than 400 steps, you can stop near the fountains decorated with local ceramics.
The city is dominated by the Rocca di San Nicola de Thoro-Plano, dating back to the 9th century.
The fascinating building in Maiori can also be visited, the Palazzo Mezzacapo, surrounded by suggestive gardens that seem to have the shape of the Maltese Cross in honor of the homonymous military order.
Among the religious buildings, at the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria a Mare, you can admire the miraculous statue of the Virgin who, according to tradition, arrived here floating on the waters. In the Santa Maria Olearia complex are crypts and catacombs of the first monks of the Amalfi Coast Amalfitana.
Gastronomy
The typical dish of Maiori is the menesta 'mmaretata, where escarole, chicory, cabbage, walnuts, pork sausages, and aromatic herbs are mixed.
You can also take the opportunity to refresh yourself with delicious homemade lemon sorbet.
