Lido degli Scacchi and Lido di Pomposa - Fractions of Comacchio (FE) - Emilia Romagna

Lido degli Scacchi, one of the seven Lidos of Comacchio, is a seaside resort in the province of Ferrara.

The quality and control services of the beaches, the modern bathing establishments equipped for children, and the hotels and campsites make this beach the ideal destination for families with children.

Lido degli Scacchi also offers opportunities for entertainment: various clubs providing music for all tastes, game rooms, and artisan ice cream parlors.

Along the Viale Alpi Centrali, outdoor markets, festivals, and folkloristic festivals are set up.

History

At the end of 1509, the Serenissima wanted to punish the expansionist manias of the Este family with a river attack on the Duchy of Ferrara. The bloody confrontation that saw the victory of the Ferrara militia took place on the banks of the Po.

Following the victory, a Polesan gunner, loyal to Duke

Alfonso I d'Este, was named Knight "degli Scacchi" in honor of his effective strategy for arranging the artillery. He was also given a woodland between the Borgo della Fontana (today's San Giuseppe) and Magnavacca. From these arose the first residential nucleus, the Borgo Scacchi.

Every year, on August 8, a party is celebrated to commemorate the foundation of Lido degli Scacchi, the

nearby Lido di Pomposa - with costume parades and masked floats.

On the table

The comacchiese eel is the traditional dish of the whole area of the Ferrara beaches, cooked and served following ancient recipes with an unmistakable flavor. However, there is no shortage of other delicious fish-based dishes, all prepared with local fish.
