The Maddalena Archipelago is a marine park with 5000 hectares of land and 15000 hectares of marine surface. The marine and land areas are included within the La Maddalena Archipelago National Park, established in 1994.
The main islands are La Maddalena, Caprera, Santo Stefano, Budelli, Santa Maria, Razzoli, and Spargi. The islets are: Spargiotto, Roma, del Cardellino, and Cala Lunga.
The granite nature of the rocks characterizes the area's geomorphology.
La Maddalena has about 11,116 inhabitants. Its urban nucleus dates back to the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century, with the transfer of some shepherds from Corsica.
The island is also called Little Paris, and its historic center is rich with more than 200 years of history. Every morning,
in the alleys and alleys, the scent of coffee and sweet pastries expands, while the smell of fresh fish begins to be felt from mid-morning.
It takes 40 minutes to get around the entire coast of La Maddalena by car and motorbike, and at every corner, you can enjoy breathtaking views.
A bridge connects La Maddalena to Caprera. The latter is, in size, the second island of the Archipelago and is known for being the last home of the hero of the Two Worlds, Giuseppe Garibaldi, for over twenty years. Here, his home is one of the most famous museums in Italy.
The best beaches of the Maddalena Archipelago:
Pink Beach - Budelli. This is one of the iconic beaches of the Archipelago. It is located in Budelli and owes its name to the color of the sand, rich in tiny fragments of granite, coral, and shells of mollusks. It is so beautiful that when people come to this beach, they always bring sand as a souvenir. And to safeguard the bathing heritage, it has been closed since 1998 for bathing and landing.
Cavaliere beach - Budelli. Also, in Budelli, we find the Cavaliere beach. This can only be reached by sea and has a beach of fine white sand facing the transparent waters of the Porto Della Madonna.
Port of the Madonna. It is not a beach but natural pools of green and crystalline water. It forms between the islands of Santa Maria, Budelli, and Razzoli and is inviting waters for a swim in which, with a mask, you can admire the splendid seabed.
Cala Santa Maria-Santa Maria island. For its more than 200 m of white and thin sand, bathed by crystal clear waters, it is the destination of various motor ships that organize day trips.
Cala Lunga - Razzoli. This exhibits very white and thin sand and is surrounded by Mediterranean scrub and granite rocks.
Cala Corsara - Spargi. Turquoise colors, shades of blue, and the incomparable charm of unspoiled nature. With a mask and a mug, it allows you to admire the wonders of the sea.
Cala dell'Amore - Spargi. White and wonderful sand with a border of reddish rocks plunges into the crystal clear waters. The seabed is shallow and sandy, which also makes it ideal for children.
Cala Soraya - Spargi. In the shape of a boomerang, it is located on the eastern side of Spargi. It exhibits fine, fine, white sand.
Cala Coticcio - Caprera. To reach it, as well as by sea, you use a dirt path and a little steep, but it is worth getting there.
Shipwreck Beach - Caprera. This takes its name from the presence on the shore of the skeleton of an ancient ship carrying coal. It is located in the southern part of Caprera, and to get there, you must cross the Due Mari beach.
Punta Tegge - La Maddalena. In an almost lunar context, it offers a magnificent stretch of beach, but as we go forward, a valley of granite rock opens up at nearly 180 °. Here you
can sunbathe and equip yourself with shoes on your feet; you can take regenerating baths among the rocks while admiring the beautiful backdrops.
Spreader - La Maddalena. This has fine white sand and a transparent sea. It is an equipped beach with a kiosk, bar, and restaurant.
Baia (or Bassa) Trinita. Composed of three connected coves, it is of indescribable beauty. Here, you can admire the contrast of the crystal clear sea with the dense Mediterranean vegetation.
