It was built as a customs post at the extreme limit of the mouth of the Po, where even in the mid-18th century, the land had not emerged from the sea... #UNESCO #tuttitaly
Gorino rises south of the Po delta, on a spit of land extending towards the Adriatic Sea, 6.5 km from the municipal capital Goro.
The town was built towards the end of the 19th century as a settlement of fishermen's marsh huts. Unfortunately, until the 1960s, the hamlet was characterized by difficult environmental conditions, aggravated by continuous floods, malaria, and isolation.
These circumstances made Gorino's growth and development particularly difficult.
What to see
Among the things to admire, you will find the Goro Lighthouse, rebuilt in 1950 on a pre-existing one that the retreating Germans blew up at the end of the Second World War.
The pretty Church of the Beata Vergine della Mercede is worth a visit, and a careful look at the Monument to the fallen at sea.
Numerous tourist boats depart from Gorino and make itineraries to discover the Po delta by navigating its waters.
Important gastronomic events
In Gorino there is a traditional appointment with good cuisine, which has been taking place for almost 30 years starting from the penultimate week of May and then in June, every weekend; the Fish Festival of Gorino, an appointment eagerly awaited by many people who are happy to reach this extreme part of the Delta again to be able to taste the delicacies of the local seafaring tradition.
