It was founded in 1902 to provide accommodation and refreshments for primarily English and German tourists - Catinaccio - Dolomites declared a #UNESCO Heritage Site for the uniqueness and beauty of their landscape... #tuttitaly
In 1902, the Gardeccia refuge was built in the heart of the Dolomites. The work was by Giuseppe Desilvestro, known as "Beppo di Media." He spent his summers in Gardeccia with his family to look after the cattle and mow the hay. And since the first hikers-mountaineers-explorers who visited the valley began to pass, he gave them a small accommodation and refreshment service. The tourists were mainly foreigners, primarily British and Germans.
Thus, supported by his father, he built a tiny refuge that has grown and improved over the years to offer a better service.
Today it offers rooms with linen beds and a sink that allow comfortable refreshment after walks. The place, with its meadows, safe forests, and stream of water, is also suitable for children. It is a destination, transit point, and base for excursions and climbing in the Catinaccio area.
The refuge can be accessed directly by bus or by walking comfortably.
