Its Baia degli Angeli was the most famous Italian nightclub abroad, even frequented by Hollywood stars who stopped here during their stay in Italy... #tuttitaly
Gabicce Mare stands on the northern slopes of Monte San Bartolo, on a small bay called Baia degli Angeli.
Gabicce Mare is the smallest municipality in the province of Pesaro and Urbino. The Tavollo stream and the tributary Taviolo flow through its territory, joining near the city center.
After the First World War, the city experienced actual economic development. The port was built at the mouth of the Tavollo River, in common with the adjacent Cattolica.
It was thus possible to increase fishing activity and start tourist activities. In a few decades, Gabicce Mare developed demographically and economically.
In the decades of the Second World War, Gabicce Mare experienced a notable tourist development linked to that of the Romagna Riviera, of which it marks, with the promontory of Gabicce Monte, the southern end.
In 2008 the pedestrian-cycle bridge that connected Gabbice Mare to the neighboring Cattolica was inaugurated.
History
The site was already inhabited in Roman times, as evidenced by the archaeological findings.
The oldest urban area was built on a peninsula, today's Gabicce Monte, and was equipped with a fortress, mentioned by sources in 998, Castellum Ligabitii.
Curiosity
In the 16th century, two skilled potters from Gabicce, Girolamo, and Giacomo Lanfranco, devised a particular ceramic processing technique with pure gold that made them famous throughout Europe.
