They were among the "putative fathers" of the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano (document dated 1773), contributing decisively to making it famous in the world: "a wine obtained with noble grapes destined for the tables of the nobles"... #tuttitaly
One of the oldest wineries in Montepulciano is the Cantina Contucci.
In a document dated 1773, the Contucci appear as the "putative fathers" of the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. It was they who made him famous in the world. Furthermore, the many awards and certificates they received in 1800 confirm the high quality of their production.
The Contucci vineyards are located in one of the best production areas, and the soils are mainly of Pliocene origin, with clay and sand.
The winery is located in the heart of the historical center of Montepulciano. To enter it, when you are in Piazza Grande in front of the Contucci palace, you go down Via del Teatro, flanking the ancient castle laterally, and below these, the cellars branch off.
Thus you find yourself in a very suggestive place, composed of several rooms dug directly into the rock and communicating with each other by narrow tunnels. Each room houses large wooden barrels containing the various types of wine the Contucci Winery produces.
The barrels present are old-fashioned, which gives the atmosphere of yesteryear.
