Castel Guelfo di Bologna (BO) - Emilia Romagna

Castel Guelfo di Bologna is an Italian town of 3972 inhabitants in the province of Bologna. The city takes its name from Castrum Guelfum, a Guelph fortification built in 1309, intending to defend the local inhabitants from attacks by Imola, a rival town.

The building, inaugurated in 1802 and restored in 2010-2011, preserves a precious painting by the Bolognese painter Pietro Fancelli (1764-1850). The work depicts the mysteries of the Holy Rosary.

The economy of Castel Guelfo was, until the mid-twentieth century, typical of a rural town. Subsequently, agriculture gave way to industrialization:

small family-run artisan businesses were born, close to metalworking enterprises.

In the 1990s, an industrial and commercial center was built in Poggio Piccolo, which since 2004 has included an outlet with 110 shops. In just a few years, the Outlet has become the driving factor of Castel Guelfo's economy.
