Calabritto (AV) - Campania

In a picturesque hilly area in the province of Avellino, on the slopes of Mount Altillo, stands Calabritto. Located at 480 m.s.l.m., the municipality has 2309 inhabitants.

The origin of the toponym is uncertain. According to some, it should be attributed to the name of a laundress

with easy morals, named Britta, who, for her beauty, was acclaimed by the diners in the choir of "Cala Britta." According to others, the name Kalavrix relates the town's name to an ancient Greek city Kalavryta. According to others, the name derives from the Latin name of the hawthorn, calabrix.

After the plague of 1656, the town suffered a strong demographic explosion.

In 1299, Calabritto was part of the Citra principality, and in 1807 it became part of the Ultra Principality of the province of Avellino.

In 1928, Quaglietta became a hamlet of Calabritto. The medieval village, dominated by the ruins of the Norman castle, lends itself to characterize this hamlet.

Among the rivers that cross the municipal territory, there are the Sele and the Rio Zagarone.
