The history of this village is relived by Giacomo Miniutti, a native of the place, who based on the stories of his grandparents and not only wrote the book "Look at Us in the Worst," which collects fragments of the history of those places and their people, that despite everything after many years remain tied to their origins... #tuttitaly
The village of Movada adds charm to Lake Redona - the latter immersed in the context of the Natural Park of the Friulian Dolomites, a vast protected area of indescribable beauty, which became a UNESCO heritage site in 2009.
Lake Redona hides the remains of the village of Movada, which emerges when the water level drops and can be wholly admired when the basin is emptied. The view of the village, submerged by the emerald waters, is genuinely suggestive.
History
About sixty years ago, Val Tramontina, a place of extraordinary beauty loved by hikers, was home to three small villages, Movada, Fleur, and Vecchia Redona.
In the early 1950s, a gigantic dam was built to block the course of the Meduna River and create an artificial basin for electricity production. This project caused the valley to be flooded, and the three small villages were completely submerged.
The inhabitants, who managed to save themselves, moved to other countries.
This event was archived until, in recent years, due to drought and the continuous lowering of the watercourses, the ancient village of Movada, with its semi-destroyed ruins, returned to light, thus becoming an attraction for tourists.
