Borgo La Scola - Vimignano - Grizzana Morandi (BO) - Emilia Romagna

La Scola is a tiny magical village that still resists time. Located in the municipality of Grizzana Morandi, a locality of Vimignano, it is, in fact, one of the best-preserved medieval villages of the Bolognese Apennines. It seems it was already inhabited before 1200, but we speak extensively only of the estimates around 1375, in which the resident families are also named.

The term Scola derives from the Lombard Sculca, which means guard post. The Exarchate built it to fortify its borders and thus prevent the intrusion of the Lombards.

The village, as it is seen today, was formed between 1300 and 1500, at a time of expansion and agricultural economic development, when the countryside inhabitants took possession of the lands of the monasteries.

The Comacini masters, between the 1300s and 1500s, worked to transform the old towers into civilian homes. And so, houses, barns, and dryers expanded beyond the defense walls.

The village can be visited and is often set up for events organized by the Sculca cultural association. This is committed to the conservation of this ancient place.
