Dominated by the spectacular bulk of its famous castle, Bardi is a popular summer resort center in a panoramic position. Flowering meadows, fresh streams, and beautiful walks make a tour of its surroundings worthwhile... #tuttitaly
Bardi rises 625 m above sea level in the upper Ceno valley in the province of Parma.
The town is dominated by the imposing medieval castle, which rises on a spur of red jasper.
Today we have the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful castles in Emilia-Romagna, built at the end of the 9th century to defend the local population from Hungarian incursions.
During a visit to the castle, you can retrace its history through its various rooms: the stables, the ice house, the courtyard of honor, the parade ground, the noble wing, the kitchens, and the living quarters. However, what is most impressive is the Torture Room, a disturbing environment that gives an idea of the cruelty of the past.
In addition to the ancient fortress, the religious buildings of the town are worth a visit:
- the parish church of Santa Maria Addolorata, built in 1934, houses a precious painting by Parmigianino dating back to 1520, which depicts the Mystical Marriage of Santa Caterina;
- the old sixteenth-century parish church dedicated to San Giovanni Battista;
- the Oratory of Santa Maria delle Grazie, built in the second half of the XIII century;
- the Convent of San Francesco;
- the Church of San Siro, built in Romanesque style, probably between the XII and XIII centuries.
Typical meal
Crocetti is a specialty of the Bardigian culinary tradition. It was once produced and consumed almost exclusively in Bardi by the families who owned the stencil, with the family's symbol impressed on them.
