Bagni di Lucca is a city in Tuscany famous for its thermal baths.
Tourist attractions
Bagni di Lucca deserves a visit for the beauty and history of its buildings, among which we mention the Demidoff Hospital, Villa Ada, Regio Casinò, Palazzo Buonvisi, and Villa Reale, the summer palace of Elisa Baciocchi.
You can cross the Chain Bridge, built between 1844 and 1860, over the Lima River. The work, futuristic for its time, was commissioned by the Duke of Lucca Carlo Ludovico di Borbone and designed by Lorenzo Nottolini.
Spas
From the fifteenth century onwards, the thermal baths of Bagni di Lucca were the most famous and popular in Europe, and today, among the thermal establishments still in operation, we find:
- Jean Varraud establishment, with water at 50°C, steam caves, mud therapy, hydro massage, inhalations, and beauty treatments;
- Bernabò establishment, with water at 40.1 °C, known for its therapeutic effects on all skin problems;
- Bagno alla Villa, with water at 39 °C, frequented at the time by Montaigne, who treated his kidney stones there.
Primates
Among its firsts, Bagni di Lucca boasts the Casino, the first gambling house in the world and the first public electricity lighting in Italy (1886).
