Alfedena (AQ) - Abruzzo

Known as the country of the Doctors, because in the past there was a high number of graduates compared to the number of inhabitants... #tuttitaly

On the two banks of the Rio Torto, in the province of L'Aquila, stands Alfedena. The municipality has 830 inhabitants and is 914 meters above sea level.

The origins of the town date back to the Samnites, of which numerous artifacts have been found. Some of them are kept at the Museo Civico Aufidenate Antonio de Nino.

Even today, you can admire the walls of the medieval Castle of Prince Caracciolo of Cellammare and the Norman Tower with an octagonal plan of the X-XI century.

The town's narrow streets are a testimony of the most important tradition and, therefore, of stone processing. Even the historic Piazza San Pietro in Rome, with the famous cobblestones, was adorned by Alphedenese pavers and stonecutters.

During the summer, the town becomes a holiday center and offers the possibility of trekking and excursions in the Meta mountains.

Curiosity: Alfedena is known as the town of the Doctors because, in the past, there was a high number of graduates compared to the number of inhabitants.
