Visso (MC) - One of the most beautiful villages in Italy - Sibillini Mountains - Marche

Visso is a charming mountain town in the Marche region, located on the border with Umbria. Its history dates back to the year 1000, when the populations living in the mountains descended to the valley for a better life, giving birth to the center called Visse. Today, Visso is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

Places to visit

The beauty of Visso is evident in its historic center, characterized by imposing walls, medieval balconies, houses, towers, and Renaissance noble palaces. Among the notable buildings are the Palazzo dei Priori, the Palazzo dei Governatori, and the Palazzo del Divino Amore.

The Piazza dei Martiri Vissani, bordered by elegant 15th and 16th-century buildings, is characterized by the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria and the Church of Sant'Agostino.

In Romanesque-Gothic style, the Collegiate Church dates back to the 12th century and is topped by an elegant bell tower. The Church of Sant'Agostino, dating back to the 14th century, has a facade with three spires, a portal, and a rose window. Today, it is deconsecrated and houses a museum that collects works from the churches in the area.

Outside the town, worth a visit, is the Sanctuary of Macereto, located at an altitude of 1000 meters on the homonymous plateau dominated by Mount Bove. This Sanctuary, built between 1528 and 1538, is famous for its remarkable stone construction and the statue of the Madonna with miraculous virtues. Next to the sanctuary is the Palazzo delle Guaite, built between 1571 and 1583, surrounded by walls and an internal entrance that served as a refuge for pilgrims and animals.

Conclusion

Visso is truly a gem of the Marche region, with its fascinating historic center and the natural wonders of the Sibillini Mountains surrounding it. It is an ideal place to immerse oneself in history, admire architecture, and enjoy the beauty of nature.
