Vieste, considered "the Rimini of the Gargano," is the most important and famous tourist center of the Gargano, with a legend that still excites today... #tuttitaly
Now we return to the car to take the scenic road SP52 from Peschici to Vieste.
The panorama you encounter is stunning, but when you arrive in Vieste, you realize that Pizzomunno beats all expectations. The white rock guardian that emerges from the splendid Vieste beach leaves you amazed.
With its height of 26 meters, it looks like a long tower to protect this stretch of the Gargano coast.
Legend
When Vieste was only a fishing village, Pizzomunno lived there, a tall and robust young man in love with the beautiful Cristalda. Their love was so sincere and assertive that not even the sirens could deceive the young man, offering him immortality as long as he became their king and lover. But his heart was only for Cristalda. The two lovers used to meet on the islet before the beach to wait together for the sunset. But one evening of those, Cristalda was kidnapped by the sirens who, out of jealousy or revenge, took her to the sea. Pizzomunno was unable to save it, and from anger and desperation, it turned into the tall white rock that you can see in the photo and which, therefore, still bears its name today. But their love story will never end because every 100 years, the beautiful Cristalda goes up from the depths of the sea to spend a romantic night with her beloved Pizzomunno.
