Celebrated since the eighteenth century by writers, poets, and famous travelers discovering artistic and natural beauties during the golden age of the Grand Tour... #tuttitaly
Less than 10 minutes by train from Sorrento is Vico Equense, the first town on the Sorrento peninsula.
The splendid village is characterized by a beautiful historic center overlooking the sea, beautiful beaches, and excellent restaurants.
Around the center, going up the slopes of Monte Faito, 13 country houses allow you to stop for a good pizza or a hearty lunch.
The most famous postcard of Vico Equense is the pink facade of the former cathedral of Santa Maria Annunziata, built on a rocky outcrop overlooking the sea. It is one of the rare examples of Gothic architecture in the Sorrento peninsula. Behind it is the church of the arch confraternity with a beautiful eighteenth-century wooden altar decorated with millions of beads, corals, and glass paste.
Also worth a look is the Giusso Castle, built by Charles II of Anjou between 1284 and 1289. The ancient residence boasts various rooms suitable for hosting ceremonial banquets.
Vico Equense, despite its splendor, is still unknown to foreign tourists. So if you're looking for a quiet place in the area, consider a stay here.
