This is the volcano that was first systematically studied ... The active volcano of Vesuvius, together with the archaeological area of Herculaneum and Torre Annunziata, is a #UNESCO World Heritage site... #tuttitaly
Climbing Vesuvius was undoubtedly one of the most beautiful experiences of my life - with a view of the Gulf of Naples that is unique in the world.
Its height is about 1200 meters, and its geographical position makes it magnificent and equally "Fearsome."
It is located in one of the most beautiful landscapes the human eye can admire.
You can easily reach the first car park at an altitude of 800 meters by car, which costs € 5 for the whole day; then you should take the shuttle that takes you to the ticket office for only € 2 round trip and from here the excursion which costs 10 € per person.
A few years ago, when I was there, you could comfortably reach the square of altitude 1000, right near the ticket office. The road was then closed to make room for buses and the many tourists who arrive using this means of transport directly from Naples or neighboring towns.
The path to the "Gran Cono" is about a 4 km long round trip with an altitude difference of about 140 meters. It is suitable for everyone and does not require specific equipment. Comfortable sticks that they lent a few years ago. It is not a simple walk but a trekking path, and therefore, you will feel the climb a little, but you will be rewarded by the panorama that presents itself in front of you at every step.
Going up, you will surely notice how the colors change from intense green to luxuriant vegetation; you suddenly pass to the dry and reddish ground as you climb to the top of the world, constantly monitoring it.
From above, in addition to the view, you will notice the various fumaroles that, together with the clouds of water vapor, give an idea of where you are. Let's not forget that this "Monster," sometimes also considered sacred, is one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world due to the high population density of the surrounding areas and its explosive characteristics.
Vesuvius is the only active volcano in continental Europe and the most studied: the Vesuvian Observatory, the oldest volcanological observatory.
