The town is also known as the "cradle of the Malatesta" because here began, if not the family, but indeed the power of the Malatesta... #tuttitaly
10 km from San Marino, on a rocky ridge overlooking the landscape of the Val Marecchia, stands Verucchio, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
We left the car just outside the historic center to enjoy the experience on foot.
Although small, the historic center is genuinely characteristic and hosts several small businesses besides the Palace.
From here, you can take the various streets of the medieval village, in which splendid views lend themselves to frame breathtaking views.
The village's symbol is the Malatesta Fortress, reachable by crossing the suggestive uphill alleys. It is also known as Rocca del Sasso precisely because it dominates the entire Valmarecchia from the top of a spur of rock. From where it is located, you can admire one of the city's most beautiful views: on the one hand, you can enjoy the view over the entire village, on the other, a panorama that allows you to see the sea on the horizon.
La Rocca was the residence of the Mastin Vecchio, who was considered the founder of the Malatesta.
The ancient origins of the village encourage us to visit the Civic Archaeological Museum, which allows us to retrace thousands of years of history back in time. The first traces of Verucchio were 3000 years ago.
Do not miss the Franciscan Convent of Santa Croce, in front of which you can admire the Cypress of San Francesco. This huge 800-year-old tree was born from the stick the Saint planted on his way from Rimini to San Leo towards La Verna.
This important Convent is rich in history and gives you a truly unforgettable experience.
Enjoyable to admire the Collegiate Church, 100 m from the central square. From here, continuing uphill, you arrive at the Convent built in a second castle of the Passarello, which no longer exists. Nevertheless, the atmosphere of something magical is perceived here.
