Park of about 17 hectares, finely embellished with statues, where there is a castle, home of the Ayala-Valva family, currently owned by the Sovereign Military Order of Malta...#tuttitaly
At the foot of the steep rocky slopes of Monte Eremita and Monte Marzano stands Valva, an Italian town in Salerno province with 1595 inhabitants.
The agricultural center of the upper Sele Valley was built near the place where, at the time of the Roman Empire, a thriving city of the same name stood. Due to the barbarian invasions, the inhabitants abandoned their homes and built a new village higher up the mountain.
Thus Valva Vecchia was founded, of which the ruins remain. In more recent times, the town was rebuilt downstream.
The major historical-artistic attraction of the town is the Villa d'Ayala. This structure is mainly characterized by its large park, considered the green lung of Valva, and extends for about 18 ha. Surrounded by walls, it has an appearance dating back to the 18th century.
There are two Italian gardens: the first garden, more minor, has the function of welcoming visitors as soon as they enter the park; the second, on the other hand, was designed to become one with the Castle, which is why it is located in a position overlooking the three-arched portico that precedes the entrance to the manor.
The statues, fountains, and small architectural structures of which it is finely decorated lend themselves to enhancing the park's beauty.
It is also crossed by a system of canals and caves, which functions to channel the water.
Furthermore, we must mention Teatrino di Verzura, dating back to 1800.
The large tower is a testament to the Norman origins of the castle.
Today the villa is a tourist attraction.
