Cave of the Bue Marino - Cave of the Viole - Cave of the Rondinelle... #tuttitaly
The splendid Island of San Domino of the Tremiti Islands archipelago is one of the two islands inhabited by the Island of San Nicola. Of the five islands that make up the archipelago, they are the only ones with a port equipped for docking hydrofoils. The island of San Domino is also the largest.
I preferred to leave from the tourist port of Rodi Garganico, staying overnight in a farmhouse near the lake of Lesina, to continue my journey around the Gargano. This unspoiled paradise is well connected to the rest of Italy with hydrofoils and ferries that depart all year round. The most popular departures are those from Termoli for those from North or Central Italy.
First, we stop at the suggestive beach of the Tremiti called Cala delle Arene. After an hour of pure relaxation, we left to discover the beautiful caves and beaches that hide around the island:
- The Grotta Delle Viole. Many define it as the most beautiful of the quakes, so named for the violets that grow on the slope of its rocks, and when it is illuminated by the reflections of the sun, it offers beautiful colors.
- The Grotta del Bue Marino. Several years ago, this protected animal could be seen in these areas. The cave is the largest, and from the inside, you can admire (in the morning or at sunset) the excellent reflection of the sun, which, hitting the water, colors the cave walls blue.
- The Grotta Delle Rondinelle. Here the swallows that circle between the arches and the cracks find shelter.
- The Spiaggia dei Pagliai. It can only be reached by sea and is the most photographed beach on the island. Its name is given by the rocks from the sea that look like sizeable pointed straw bales.
A unique experience of the Tremiti that I will never forget. A wild, authentic landscape that tells all the true beauty of nature.
