Tellaro, hamlet of Lerici (SP) - Church of San Giorgio and Church of Stella Maris - Most beautiful villages in Italy - Liguria

Tellaro is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. This picturesque fishing village is famous for its natural beauty and charming churches that are majestically in the historic center. The name "Tellaro" could derive from the word "tela," which refers to the trade in canvas and fabrics that once characterized the village.

Stella Maris Church

The heart of Tellaro is dominated by the majestic Stella Maris Church, an architectural jewel built in the 20th century.

This Church, which offers a panoramic view of the sea, has become the parish seat of the village, replacing the ancient Church of San Giorgio, dating back to the 16th century. The Stella Maris Church preserves inside a sacred image from the 14th century called 'Madonna with Child and Angels,' which in the past was venerated in the parish church of the medieval village of Barbazzano.

The facade of the Stella Maris Church is simple, and the interior of the building is equally sober, with a single nave, a semicircular apse, and a trussed ceiling.

Next to the church stands the Bell Tower, slightly set back from the main facade.

Gastronomy

Tellaro is also famous for its cuisine. One of the typical dishes of the place is the "Octopus alla Tellarese," a delicious dish in which the octopus is boiled together with potatoes. Tellarese cuisine is based on fresh, quality ingredients, which are expertly combined to create tasty and authentic dishes.

Conclusion

Tellaro is a magical place where the beauty of the village, the spirituality of the Stella Maris Church, and the culinary tradition blend harmoniously. A visit to Tellaro is an unforgettable experience that leaves an imprint in the hearts of anyone lucky enough to discover this hidden treasure along the Italian coast.
