Teggiano is an Italian town of 7,555 inhabitants in the province of Salerno.

The entire city and the Vallo di Diano are part of the territory considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The historic center is located on an isolated hill in the Vallo di Diano and consists of an ancient medieval village and houses on the mountain's slopes.

The town of Teggiano rises 637 m above sea level on the buttress of Monte Serra di Campo Soprano in the historical region of Lucania.

Among the historical centers of the province of Salerno, Teggiano is the one that has best preserved its ancient appearance as a stronghold.

The powerful Sanseverino family built the Castle and elected it as a stronghold where they could take refuge in case of danger.

There, Antonello Sanseverino, prince of Salerno and lord of the state of Diano, together with other feudal lords of the area, hatched the conspiracy of the barons, a sort of fiscal riot against the king of Naples Federico d'Aragona, which concluded in 1487 with the agreement between the parties.

In addition to the castle, the whole city was protected, as Diano was surrounded by high walls with 25 watchtowers and four access gates. It resisted the siege of the new king of Naples, Ferdinand of Aragon, for three months.
