The fiefdom of Sortino, initially granted to Count Arnaldo di Modica, later passed to the Gaetani Baroni family, hailing from Tuscany. The Gaetani family played a prominent role in the history of Sortino and the province of Syracuse for over three centuries, also contributing to the town's reconstruction after the earthquake of 1693.
Santa Sofia Church
The Church of Santa Sofia in Sortino is an essential example of Sicilian Baroque architecture, rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake. The facade features a staircase and a bell tower with three bells. The interior, with three naves and side chapels, is adorned with frescoes and stucco that express the place's spirituality.
Opera dei Pupi
