Soave (VR) - Cathedral of S. Lorenzo Martire in Soave and Church of S. Maria - Veneto

The village of Soave, located in the Veneto region, is a fascinating place that transports visitors back in time with its unique medieval atmosphere.

Places to visit

The place's main attractions are the castle and the numerous ancient palaces.

The Scaliger Castle, located on Monte Tenda, dominates the entire territory and offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding countryside. The city walls surrounding the old village are a well-preserved example of medieval defensive architecture.

A walk along Via Roma, the main street of the medieval village, allows you to admire the main monuments of Soave. The Cathedral of San Lorenzo, with its gabled facade, is a place of worship of great historical importance. The Palace of Justice and the Palace of the Captain, the seat of the Municipality of Soave, are examples of Renaissance architecture that testify to the village's glorious past.

Outside the walls, to the north of the town, it is recommended to stop in Borgo Bassano to visit the Sanctuary of Madonna della Bassanella, a place of devotion the locals love.

Local excellence

Soave is famous not only for its historical architecture but also for its eponymous white wine. The Garganega grape is cultivated on the gentle hilly slopes of the area, which is the basis for producing the renowned Soave DOC, Soave DOC Classico, Soave Classico DOCG, and Recioto di Soave DOCG wines.

It is said that Dante Alighieri named the village "Soave" in honor of its delicious wine after attending a banquet at the Scaliger Castle.

In addition to wine grapes, the territory is also renowned for other local products such as Monte Veronese cheese, Vialone Nano rice, olive oil, cherries from the Veronese hills, Veronese radicchio, and San Mauro chestnuts.

The local gastronomy offers a variety of traditional dishes that pair perfectly with the local wines.
