Roman Town Hall of the 1st century BC C. called Septempeda... #tuttitaly
San Severino Marche is located in the province of Macerata and is considered one of the fascinating cities of art in the Marche. The wonderful village and the friendliness of the people will surprise you.
We came across it almost by chance, but still, today, I carry
the memory of that beautiful day alive in my heart. We found ourselves sleeping in a beautiful farmhouse right in front of the courtyard of a splendid Villa. The farmhouse owner joined us and accompanied us on a Vespa along a beautiful tree-lined hill road. The astonishment was great when we realized we were in front of Villa Collio, one of the most interesting historic houses in the Macerata area.
San Severino Marche has two nuclei: the Castle, ancient and practically uninhabited, located on the top of
Montenero, and the Borgo, which develops along the slope. The heart of the city is the beautiful Piazza del Popolo, which is characteristic of its oval plan.
In ancient times, the city was called Septempeda, a Roman Municipality of the 1st century BC. Today, only a few ruins remain, recovered in the archaeological area, in the locality of Pieve, along the road called Septempedana. Therefore, the inhabitants still take the name of sanseverinati or settempedani. There is a site called settempedano.it - is a local information body.
Among the characters linked to San Severino, we must not forget the figure of Vittorio Sgarbi, who, thanks to his fame and attachment to these places, made the city of which he was Mayor known throughout Italy.
A village full of history absolutely to visit to taste the typical products such as sausages and cheeses accompanied by the doc wine "Terreni di San Severino."
