Summer and winter alpine capital where it seems to be able to touch the mountains with a finger... Dolomites declared a #UNESCO Heritage Site for the uniqueness and beauty of their landscape... #tuttitaly
San Martino di Castrozza is truly an enchanting place, one of those places that you always want to return to. I have had the honor and pleasure of going there three times already, but I plan to return because there are still many things to see and discover around this small but beautiful alpine town.
We are 1,450 meters above sea level, and this area is the destination for mountain and sports enthusiasts.
San Martino di Castrozza was born as a Roman military outpost; later, a hospice was erected by some religions to give assistance and hospitality to pilgrims. Later on, intrepid mountaineers faced the daring peaks of the Dolomites. Thanks to the help of local shepherds and hunters, they became mountaineering professionals to the point of becoming legendary over the years, alpine guides called Eagles of San Martino.
Only the church of San Martino remains of the old hospice, with its Romanesque bell tower.
San Martino looks like a jewel set among imposing peaks, which almost seems to be able to touch.
The basin in which it is inserted is surrounded by the Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino Natural Park. The genuinely extraordinary panorama falls on the peaks of Cimon della Pala, Vezzana, Rosetta, Sass Maor, Val di Roda, Madonna, and Colbricon. Passo Rolle connects the town with the Val di Fiemme.
This place will offer unique emotions you will not easily forget in summer or winter, with equally spectacular cuisine.
