The village of San Candido, located 1175 m above sea level, developed around a monastery which, in 769, was founded by Duke Tassilone III of Bavaria to Christianize the Slavic pagans.
San Candido is, therefore, a religious center, gravitating around the Collegiate Church, which has attracted thousands of pilgrims for centuries. In fact, in its historic center, in addition to stately homes of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, there are also various places of worship.
Surrounded by imposing mountain ranges immersed in unspoiled nature characterized by brightly colored pastures, colorful meadows, and dense woods, San Candido and Val Pusteria are ideal for families and sports lovers.
You can go on bike or mountain bike tours; you can go trekking, play a game of tennis, or have a day of golf.
The numerous pedestrian and cycle paths that branch off the town center allow you to reach attractions suitable for children.
You can reach the Rocca dei Baranci, which is located 2,966 m above sea level and takes its name from the legend of the Giant Baranci. It is a circular path of about 2 km with ten thematic stations: a natural entertainment oasis for the little ones.
You can cross the cycle path that winds about 42 km from the village of San Candido to Lienz, a municipality in the Austrian Tyrol. Along the way, you will find several stops for families with children, such as the Sillian Gnome Park and the Loacker factory, with interactive tours and workshops.
The village of San Candido, with its enchanting landscapes, awaits you for a stay to discover the Dolomites, where you can fully enjoy your experience!
