The imposing and picturesque scenario of the Ruins of the Castle is hidden among the narrow cobblestone streets that wind their way up towards the upper part of the village of Novara di Sicilia. Built at the end of the 13th century, this ancient fortress still bears the marks of its glorious past and strategic importance.
Located in a privileged position, the Castle of Novara di Sicilia allowed for visual contact with other critical fortified points, such as the castles of Tripi and Tindari and the Rocche Salvatesta and del Leone, which overlook the entire valley. Following the natural terrain, the castle's structure had an irregular plan and was surrounded by imposing defensive walls. Even today, some of these walls showcase the skill of the builders, constructed using the "Sacco" technique and abundant hydraulic lime mortar.
From the castle's stronghold, the eye can wander over a magnificent panorama, which, on clear days, even allows one to glimpse the enchanting Aeolian Islands on the horizon.
Today, the area of the Castle is privately owned.
