Rocca Sforzesca di Soncino (CR) - One of the most beautiful villages in Italy - Lombardy

By order of Duke Galeazzo Maria Sforza, work began in 1473 to prepare the Rocca Sforzesca in Soncino, based on a project by Bartolomeo Gadio.

Starting from the 15th, with the fief of Count Massimiliano Stampa, the fortress was gradually transformed into a Residential Castle. In 1876, thanks to the testamentary bequest of Massimiliano Cesare Stampa, the fort came into a state of decay in the Municipality of Soncino.

In 1883 the architect Luca Belmi was tasked with designing the project and restoring the fortress.

Crossing the fortress's main entrance, you can admire the majesty and elegance of this structure. Immediately to the right opens the ladder, which leads to the basement of the Torre del Capitano. An internal staircase leads to the castle's house, the extreme possibility of resistance and defense. From here, the besieged reach the exit towards Santa Maria delle Grazie.

In the castle, in addition to the Torre del Capitano, the Cylindrical Tower, the drawbridges, the imposing towers, the high curtain walls, and the crenelated terraces, we can better know its glorious past by visiting the two museums: the historical one and the civic-archaeological one.

Of course, it seems that a ghost also lives within these walls. The "spiteful elf" legend was reported in a seventeenth-century document when the fortress had been enfeoffed.

Legend has it that when Marquis Vecchio tore a torch from his bedroom located in the Torre del Capitano, the naughty elf disappeared and slipped the covers off. Whether it is reality or illusion, we do not know. The fact is that the Castle attracts not only curious tourists but also many ghost hunters.
