Reggio Emilia (RE) - Church of Christ and Church of San Giorgio - Emilia Romagna

Reggio Emilia is a beautiful city in Emilia Romagna, rich in art, history, and culture. It is not only the homeland of Ludovico Ariosto, the great poet of Orlando Furioso, but also the City of the Tricolore, where, in 1797, the banner, which later became the national flag, was adopted.

Reggio Emilia is internationally known for the "most beautiful kindergartens in the world" and its precious monuments. Not to mention the gastronomy: from cappelletti reggiani to Parmigiano Reggiano to Traditional Balsamic Vinegar.

The culinary delicacies that Reggio Emilia offers its visitors satisfy all palates.

Our exploration begins in the Piazza Grande, where a market is set up during our visit. They mainly sell plants and flowers, and curiosity is great, but we are in a hurry to visit the places of worship in the city to avoid finding the doors closed.

We, therefore, enter the beautiful Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, which overlooks Piazza Grande.

Inside we experience goosebumps, having happened upon the choir rehearsal on Anima Christi's notes. You can see the video of the Cathedral and hear the song by clicking here.

We had no desire to leave the Duomo; the choir's voices so took us, but we had another unmissable stop, which fortunately overlooks Piazza Grande: the Museo del Tricolore. Here we can retrace the historical facts with Napoleonic and Risorgimento relics. We, therefore, have the opportunity to find out how the Italian flag was born.

The churches in Reggio Emilia are one more beautiful than the other, and there are also Orthodox ones. However, don't miss the opportunity to visit the Basilica of the Madonna della Ghiara, which I found of indescribable charm. The basilica houses precious works of art. Note the cycle of frescoes on female figures from the Old Testament.

If you have more time to spend in Reggio Emilia, the Municipal Theater allows entry only for performance time. Unfortunately, we couldn't stop, but it was as majestic outside as I imagined it was inside.

The theater overlooks Piazza Martiri, which boasts a beautiful fountain.

There are many other things to discover in Reggio Emilia. I advise you not to leave the city before enjoying a nice lunch in one of its restaurants. I assure you that your palate will be delighted.
