Radicofani and Church of San Pietro (SI) - Val d'Orcia - UNESCO World Heritage - Tuscany

Radicofani, a village that received the Orange Flag award from the Touring Club, is a Tuscany jewel waiting to be discovered.

To welcome us, there is the Giardini del Maccione. We can admire the statue dedicated to Ghino di Tacco, a character remembered as the Robin Hood of the Val d'Orcia, who took possession of the Fortress of Radicofani.

The Rocca, which appears tens of kilometers away, is now the seat of the Cassero Museum, where the archaeological treasures found in these areas are kept.

If you get to the fortress, I recommend you go up the tower, from which you can enjoy a splendid 360 ° panorama over the entire Val d'Orcia.

The most notable building in the ancient village is the Romanesque church of San Pietro, dating back to the 13th century. Damaged by the last war, the building was restored in 1946.

It welcomes you inside with its low Gothic arches. It allows you to admire a splendid collection of Della Robbia terracotta and wooden statues, among which a Madonna and Child stand out.

No less noteworthy is the church of Sant'Agata, on whose altar there is another large dossal in Della Robbia terracotta.

Note the Palazzo Pretorio, where several ancient stone coats of arms are exhibited.

On the old Via Cassia that goes around the town is the Palazzo della Posta, a large sixteenth-century building built as a hunting lodge for Ferdinand I, later transformed into a customs house and a hotel, which has hosted many illustrious travelers.
